In proper fashion, we’re celebrating the launch of this female-driven, Houston-based marketing agency on none other than Galentine’s Day, and I’m so excited to share everything with you! The owner of bird + hyssop, Kelly, and I have become dear friends since we first met back in July and started dreaming of this rebrand. She is one of the most passionate people I know, and her heart is a true treasure. It is always an honor to walk alongside my clients as they navigate this journey, and it’s certainly something I’ll never take for granted.
bird + hyssop (formerly known as KM7 Consulting!), exists to do more than just help with your marketing strategy. Kelly’s unique, Story Brand-certified, approach will help fellow mompreneurs and business owners clarify their message and gain the confidence needed to grow their business in a sustainable, achievable way. Before diving into the design specifics, I want to shed a little light on the heartfelt meaning behind her brand name.
In her own words, Kelly says,
“Being an entrepreneur became more special when I had my daughter Ava. Modeling for her that hard work and using her talents to better her family and community is important is one of my missions for my business. I look forward to when I can start having her learn about what I do and help her dream about what she wants to do with her talents!
When I decided to change my business name, I knew that I wanted to pay homage to her. The name Ava is from the Latin “avis” meaning “bird”, hence the first part of bird + hyssop.
The hyssop plant, on the other hand, was used by ancient Jews as a purification tool. Before Passover, the Israelites in Egypt dipped a hyssop branch in the blood of lamb to spread over their doorways so that the Lord would pass over their house. (Exodus 12)
Put together bird + hyssop simply means this:
When you clarify your brand message so that it resonates with your customers, your marketing will soar.
That’s my goal for you! That your marketing would take you to new heights in your business!”
Isn’t that so beautiful? My clients are the best.
When sourcing inspiration for her design, we wanted it to feel organic and authentic with a hint of empowerment. Rich purple hues, significant to the hyssop plant, were a natural fit due to their soothing and creative associations. Nurturing greens and a hint of refreshing mint finished out her brand color palette in the perfect, complimentary way.
From a design standpoint, we didn’t want her primary logo to feel too stuffy. Knowing her ideal clients are running around like crazy and just trying to stay afloat, she needed something simple, feminine and to the point, which is why we opted for the clean script design seen here. Her secondary logos and submarks offered me the ability to get a bit more exploratory, and I loved the idea of bringing in a circular wreath into the structure. Using custom hyssop and bird illustrations, I constructed this wreath with the idea that working in and on your business is evergreen, ever changing, and never ending - it’s a constant process!
For her additional brand elements, Kelly decided to do a custom icon suite and two brand patterns! I didn’t want to overthink the patterns and made them something people would naturally associate with her brand design. Her icons compliment the wreath from her logo suite and take on the same slightly rugged texture.
