I think every designer has a list of client "categories" they would love to work with, from interior designers, to photographers, to wedding planners, and more. My personal list just so happened to include "blogger," so I was absolutely thrilled when Holly inquired about a brand design for her new lifestyle blog, Pomp & Pollen. Aside from the most adorable name on the planet, Pomp & Pollen (coming soon!) is focused on providing free inspiration for young ladies in the areas of entertaining, food, fitness, travel and home. Holly's mission with this platform is to spread excitement and reasons to celebrate the everyday moments, and with her extensive background in event planning and operations, I have no doubt this venture will be a huge success!
With a name like Pomp & Pollen to play with, the design inspiration was endless right from the start! However, two elements really stuck with me from our initial phone conversation: Holly's pure passion for delighting in the small things and her love of vivid colors. This inspired her eventual color palette of bright pinks, oranges, and yellows - all of which exude the excitement and festivity of her brand.
From there, it was time to start sketching! I designed a few different bee illustrations - some of which were a little more realistic - but we eventually landed on this simpler version. I loved the idea of incorporating a bee into the ampersand, which would immediately draw the audience's eye to the most playful element of the design. To soften things up a bit, I opted for a lowercase type, making the design more approachable and youthful in nature.
I knew I wanted to incorporate honeycomb into the brand design - aside from the bee association, honeycomb represents "life's sweetness" and is perfectly symbolic of P&P's mission. Once we opted for a simpler logo design, I knew the honeycomb would be perfect for a complimentary brand pattern! In the interest of tying in home decor, I designed the honeycomb as a tiled aesthetic, which Holly can use in a number of ways within her future branding.
It was so fun to step a bit outside of my comfort zone (hello, pastels and neutrals) and take on this brand design! I'll be sure to share the new Pomp & Pollen website once it's up and running! If you've considered a rebrand for your business, I would love to chat with you! You can find me at email@example.com.
