I’m SO so thrilled to finally show off this heartfelt rebrand for Kati Hewitt Photography, one of Houston’s best wedding photographers (in my completely unbiased opinion, I promise!). Kati is the epitome of #girlboss, and someone I truly admire for the way she runs and operates her business. It’s no wonder she has raving reviews from her brides, and I am still so honored she decided to work with me for this monumental step.
Kati is known for creating a joyful, peaceful, and completely detailed wedding experience for her couples. She wants them to take in every moment of their special day without worry of how the small details will play out, and she strives to curate an experience they will never forget.
Her brand story is one I’m particularly excited to share because of her unique family origin. With strong Greek ties and a love for travel, we brainstormed ways to incorporate these elements into her brand design while maintaining an elevated, bridal appeal - the result is truly breathtaking. We sat at a coffee shop in Houston and just talked for well over an hour about her, her family, her hubby, and her travels. I think it’s so important to get to know my clients - there’s only so much a single questionnaire can reveal, no matter how detailed they are.
After our conversation, I knew a few things for sure:
Using the color blue in her brand design was a non-negotiable, in my opinion. Not only is it highly symbolic of a wedding day (something borrowed, something blue!), but it’s also representative of Greece, and reminded Kati, specifically, of her grandma’s blue and white china. As soon as she shared this detail with me, my eyes lit up with excitement, and I knew we had to incorporate this detail somewhere!
As part of a Greek tradition, Kati and her husband, Alex, wore a crown of olive leaves (known as stephana) during their own wedding ceremony. The olive leaf symbolizes “perpetual peace” for a marriage, which was just too perfect after learning her heart for her clients. Kati’s goal is to ensure her brides feel a total sense of peace throughout their wedding day. You’ll see this detail most prominently throughout her brand pattern and within her primary logo and submark.
Lastly, I knew we wanted to design a brand that could withstand the test of time. As someone who has been so successful at such a young age, Kati is stepping into a new season of her career. She’s an established veteran, who is known and trusted throughout the industry, and I wanted her design to reflect this professionalism.
For her primary logo design, I loved the idea of incorporating a circular shape (to represent the stefana itself) with an enclosed olive leaf. Around the border, I added a custom Greek key detail, which you’ll also find as one of her brand patterns! In fact, if you look closely enough, you can easily make out the K, J, and H within the key (to represent her full name: Kati Hewitt Jennings), which I love as a small but mighty detail. For the typeface, I opted for a feminine serif font with easy readability and solid structure to give her brand an immediate “trust” factor. It’s clean, lighthearted, meaningful, yet still professional (not to mention gorg!).
As part of her brand package, Kati added a custom icon set to use on her website and social media! I had an absolute blast designing these sweet little guys, and I love the way she has incorporated them onto her new website (check it out here!). I maintained the slightly rough texture of her primary logo with an offset coloring to give each logo a bit more pop. They are truly quite lovely, don’t you think?
I’ll be sharing a bit more of what Kati and her husband have up their sleeves soon, but in the meantime I hope you enjoyed a little look into their new brand development.
